Quran verses about repentance
Repentance in Arabic is tawbah, which literally means turning back. The Quran uses the same root for Allah as at-Tawwab, the one who turns toward people again and again and accepts their return. The first story of repentance in the Quran is Adam's, who receives words from his Lord and is forgiven.
The Quran presents repentance as open to everyone and describes what makes it real: regret, turning to Allah, and changing what one does. It speaks of sincere repentance, tawbatan nasuha, and promises in 25:70 that Allah will replace the bad deeds of those who repent, believe and do good with good deeds. It also includes the story of three companions of the Prophet ﷺ who felt the wide earth close in on them until Allah accepted their repentance. The verses below cover the invitation, the promise and these examples.
Say, “O My servants who have transgressed against themselves: do not despair of Allah’s mercy, for Allah forgives all sins. He is indeed the Forgiver, the Clement.”

And they ask you about menstruation: say, “It is harmful, so keep away from women during menstruation. And do not approach them until they have become pure. Once they have become pure, approach them in the way Allah has directed you.” Allah loves the repentant, and He loves those who keep clean.
Al-Baqarah 2:222 Allah loves those who turn to Him often in repentance.
The Quran never asks a person to be clean before coming back. Adam was given the words to say, and 2:222 describes Allah loving those who return often, which assumes they will need to. If something is weighing on you, a quiet, honest prayer of regret and a small change in what you do next is how these verses begin.
